Monday was a beautiful day, very different from the others. After some rain
showers, we took the opportunity to clean the boat thoroughly
inside. Vacuum cleaner, then wet cloth with a cleaning product. It’s nice to
feel and smell a clean and fresh boat.

The youngsters wanted to have the experience to swim with 5.000 meter depth
under them. Today was the best opportunity. At 11am, as the
cleaning was over, I cut the engine and they jumped overboard, holding a line I
had attached amidships. I asked them not to let go of the line
as a light wind was starting to push the boat. Even with no sails on, it was
moving a one knot.

As soon as they are on board, I unfurl the code 0 and we are moving effortless
on a calm sea at 8 knots. The wind is from the South-southwest, 10 to 12 knots.

I am happy with our course, we are now slightly to the West of the rhumb line.
The wind will veer to the West by the end of the day then
even turn North West tomorrow. This leaves us a little leeway to bear away if we
need to before reaching Praia.

At noon, Matteo caught a fish, but at the moment of putting it on deck, the fish
unhooks itself and slides back into the sea! Ah well, next time.

Matteo and Andrea are excellent cooks. Matteo has been well trained, his father,
my friend Stefano, is a particularly good cook, I learned
many things from him. Matteo had prepared an excellent couscous with some of the
fresh vegetables we still have on board.

In the afternoon, Matteo and Andrea caught again a mahi-mahi, this time all goes
well. The fish is on board and the two of them clean it out.
It will be on the menu tonight. Appetizer: tartare of mahi-mahi with mango and
lime, Entrée: filet of mahi-mahi with nuts and almonds, oignon jam, salad and red rice.

The day went well well alternating with many rain squalls. The boat is
thoroughly rinsed outside too.

These rains do not bother us in fact they are welcome as the cool the atmosphere
quite a bit. And with the light from the sun they form superb
rainbows which are different each time. It is magical to see in the middle of
the ocean this huge and perfect half-circle with vivid colours,
starting and ending on the horizon.

At the end of the day, the wind is now blowing from the South-West between 12
and 14 knots, I furl the code 0 and unfurl the genoa and
staysail. The sea is calm, we are moving at 8 knots with a dry deck.

In the evening we are happy to be gliding on the ocean with these perfect
conditions. We watch, a glass in hand, an amazing sunset with clouds
coloured in various shades of red.

Lundi était une belle journée, très différente des autres jours. Après
avoir eu quelques nuages de pluie, nous en avons profité pour nettoyer le
bateau à l’intérieur. Aspirateur partout puis loque humide avec un
produit de nettoyage. C’est bon de sentir un bateau propre et frais.

Les jeunes voulaient avoir l’expérience de nager par 5.000 mètre de profondeur.
Aujourd’hui était la meilleure opportunité.
Vers 11h dès que le nettoyage fut terminé, je coupe le moteur et ils sautent à
l’eau en tenant un bout attaché au milieu du bateau. Je leur ai
demandé de ne le lâcher à aucun moment car un petit vent commencait et malgré
qu’il n’y avait pas de voiles, le bateau avancait à un noeud.

Dès qu’ils furent à bord, je déroule le code 0 et nous avançons en douceur sur
une mer calme à 8 noeuds. Le vent était au Sud sud-ouest, 12 noeuds.

Je suis content de ma route car je me trouve légèrement à l’Ouest de la
rhumb line maintenant. Le vent va tourner en fin de journée vers l’ouest et
demain même vers le Nord ouest. Ceci nous laisse une petite réserve pour
pouvoir abattre si nécessaire avant d’arriver à Praia.

A midi, Matteo attrape un poisson, mais au moment de le mettre sur le pont,
le poisson se décroche et glisse à l’eau de nouveau! Qu’a cela ne tienne, la
prochaine fois sera la bonne.

Matteo et Andrea sont d’excellents cuisiniers. Matteo a été à bonne école, son
père, mon ami Stefano est un cuisinier hors-pair lui-même et
j’ai beaucoup appris de lui. On déjeune avec un excellent couscous que Matteo a
préparé avec encore quelques légumes frais.

L’après-midi, Matteo et Andrea attrapent de nouveau un mahi-mahi, cette fois
c’est la bonne, le poisson est à bord et les deux jeunes le nettoyent
convenablement. Il sera au menu du soir. En entrée, tartare de mahi-mahi à
la mangue et citron vert. En plat principal, filet de mahi-mahi aux noix et
amandes concassées, avec oignons caramélisés, salade et riz rouge.

La journée continue d’alterner avec des nuages de pluie, le bateau est
vraiment bien rincé à l’extérieur aussi.

Les pluies ne nous dérangent pas, elles sont autant d’occasions de se
rafraichir. Et puis en alternance avec le soleil, elles forment des
arc-en-ciels chaque fois différents. C’eet toujours magique de voir sur l’océan
cet immense demi-cercle parfait de couleurs vives qui commence
et fini à l’horizon.

En fin d’après-midi, le vent souffle maintenant du Sud-ouest entre 12 et 14
noeuds, j’enroule le code 0 et déroule le génois et la trinquette.
La mer est calme, on avance à 8 noeuds avec un pont sec.

Le soir, nous sommes pleinement heureux de glisser sur l’océan dans de si bonnes
conditions en admirant un magnifique coucher de soleil un
verre à la main, les nuages prenant différentes couleurs de rouge.
